Fine art:

  • I really similar the Home Art Studio DVDs they're a swell manner to exercise fine art grade at dwelling house. They are sold past grade level, which might not work as well if you have multiple-grades represented in your home. Merely I've found that for the most role, if you pick a DVD closer to the upper grades in your home, you tin can have anybody do a project from one DVD and information technology will still be okay. The DVDs may cost a bit more, but they also take the pressure off of y'all to teach a lesson. If yous're non comfy pedagogy art, you tin merely get together the required materials and allow the DVD do the didactics for you lot.
  • YouTube: A not bad resource for my 9th grader and art has been YouTube. I have parental controls set for our YouTube and restrictions within the app also. But there are a ton of free art videos available and my daughter admittedly loves to lookout man them. She's created an entire drawing notebook full of really absurd artwork just from watching cartoon tutorials online. Of course with the content available on YouTube I refer y'all to this with circumspection and definitely propose that you set up restrictions for it besides before letting your 9th grader search for tutorials online.
  • Atelier Art is also a dandy DVD based art curriculum for older students. It is sold by course level and includes principles of art, art-history, media exploration, creative self-expression, cultural appreciation, drawing techniques and more.

Bible:

  • Word of Life Champion Placidity Fourth dimension Devotions . These are nifty for starting to teach independent Bible report for kids. They come past course levels so you can become ane that is appropriate for your child. We exercise 1 per day, and they but have about five-10 minutes each. These are my favorite right now because they can be washed independently.
  • Character Studies: I accept a serial of Complimentary graphic symbol studies available for download on my website. They're great for instruction bones character skills to your kids while having a fun and engaging Bible study at the same time. Y'all can notice them all hither on my Bible printables page, I hope you enjoy them!
  • Kay Arthur Discover 4 yourself: These are great for kids who are proficient readers and prepare for something a little more than in depth. They have a reading consignment each day forth with some specific Bible markings to assistance them remember the text and think near what it means in a more critical manner. These books are great for encouraging 4th-high school grade students to study their Bible more independently. I practice NOT go the instructor's guide for these book as they're fairly self-explanatory in each lesson.

Spelling:

  • Spelling You Run into: Nearly curriculum don't focus much on spelling anymore past 7th class. But I really notwithstanding have my students do the SYS program. It's basically a copy piece of work and dictation type of curriculum. Merely I really love the fact that they larn a variety of information in the passages. Each course level has a dissimilar theme and then students larn the information as they're copying the passages. I recommend level Thou if your student is nevertheless struggling in this area, it's currently the highest level they have at this time. I really don't usually utilize the TM for this grade, in that location are dictation assignments, and for that we just tear out our worksheet and I read from their book.
  • All Well-nigh Spelling Level : This is the highest level of spelling for AAS at this time. So if you have completed all of their levels I wouldn't add together in anything else for spelling for ninth grade unless your student is yet struggling in this area. 1 affair that you lot should note with this curriculum is that it'due south teacher led, and we spent about 15-20 minutes each day working on our lessons. The books come with most 26-30 lessons for each level, and and so I split the lessons into two parts. We do the new teaching one twenty-four hour period, and so the word writing and practice the following day. they utilise letter tiles to help students spell words which helps with actually seeing and sounding out each sound, popular vowel teams, and consonant teams. At this indicate they've really learned well-nigh of the phonics rules and are working on harder word lists. Note: You will demand the instructor manual's for AAS as the lessons are just in the TM!

English/Grammer:

  • IEW Ready information technology! Grammer & Fix it! Grammar:  I really relish the IEW writing program, and have loved their Fix It! Grammar plan besides. Students go through and edit a pre-written story from showtime to end. The stories are taken from popular literature, which is also a nice addition to their studies. The stories increase in difficulty as you progress through the levels. You tin also motion on to their theme based writing units once you feel your educatee has mastered the grammer side of things. They also offer a high school literature program equally well.
  • BJU Press Distance Online Learning English ix: I love BJU Press distance online for loftier schoolhouse! It'southward a groovy way to get your kids college ready, and give them some more independence equally well.
  • BJU Press Fundamentals of Literature 9: BJU Press offers an excellent literature curriculum for 9th grade covering fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama and critical thinking. Literary works are analyzed using scriptural applications.

Math:

  • Math U Meet Geometry: We have used Math U Meet for all of our kiddos for years. We take tried a couple of other math programs, merely concluded up going back to MUS because it's just a much better fit for united states of america. I like that it comes with DVD lessons, so I don't accept to teach them. I but facilitate their work during the week, and help out when they take questions. Even though the skills are taught in a different guild than traditional math where kids do a little bit of everything each day, I notice that the MUS philosophy of mastering one skill earlier moving on to the next has worked well for our kids.

Foreign Linguistic communication: You'll desire to check with your state requirements to run into what is required for graduation for high school. Some of the more common foreign language curriculum available does not count for loftier school credit. We take not used the beneath courses at the fourth dimension of this post, however I wanted to include them as I believe they do count for high school credits.

  • BJU Press Foreign Linguistic communication: BJU Press offers courses in Spanish, French, and Latin.
  • Abeka Foreign Language:  Abeka offers courses in Castilian and French.

History:

  • BJU Online Learning: We are using BJU Press online learning for history and I admittedly beloved it! I have a full video review of BJU Press Altitude Online Learning here if yous'd like more information. I honey that information technology is more student independent rather than teacher intensive. I too like that I still take some command over their grading. BJU Printing makes it quite easy for me to log in each day and check their work as well as conform whatsoever grades as needed. I also similar the video lessons, the teacher is very clear with the content as well as whatever expectations she has of your student. They also offering quizzes and tests likewise.
  • Abeka History 9: Abeka is a smashing option for those of you looking for an open and go type curriculum. It requires very little prep piece of work on the teacher'due south side. That said, in that location aren't as many easily-on activities included. Yet they are easy and short daily lessons and tin be purchased by grade level. Ane thing I similar about this curriculum is that the reading assignments are actually advisable for each course level so I didn't experience like I was educational activity above my students agreement. One thing that I like virtually this curriculum is that yous can assign these out for more independent work as well, having your pupil exercise the reading on their ain. Information technology's a great way to continue teaching them critical study skills so they can learn how to read a text, take notes, then report from those notes to fix for a quiz or exam. This curriculum is too great if you're looking for something that doesn't require much preparation on your part.

Literature and Reading: Depending on my pupil's skill level, I practise not normally exercise a formal reading program for 9th class. If they are reading well, I will often search for an 9th course literature book lists and let my pupil choose books off of that. I've institute that they tend to enjoy reading more when they tin choice something they're interested in as opposed to doing a more than structured reading curriculum. We however practice comprehension practice with all of our reading units. That said, hither are a few more than formal curriculum choices to get you started.

  • IEW Literature: Students put literary analysis skills into practice as they study and write about great works of literature. They offering American Literature, British Literature, Earth Literature likewise as novel writing and others.
  • Abeka 9 Literature: Abeka offers a literature unit of measurement for your ninth graders that includes popular literature as well every bit a compilation of selections based on pioneers, pilgrims, patriots, professional athletes and other famous people. They include quizzes, speed tests and comprehension tests equally well.
  • BJU Press Literature 9: BJU offers a literature curriculum for ninth graders that is a compilation of stories, poems, and essays from a variety of authors. Each i includes a critical thinking section to help students with comprehension and disquisitional assay of what they've read also.
  • Book Shark: We used this curriculum from our options plan last year. And while I didn't love all of the books, at that place were definitely a good selection to cull from. The curriculum besides comes with a history section, and so you can employ this for both history and reading. They also take a full curriculum option which includes other subjects also, however nosotros simply used the reading portion. Since this programme was free for usa through our options program information technology was a good addition to our homeschool. Notwithstanding information technology can exist quite expensive if you were to purchase the curriculum new. If you are interested in this plan, I would probably try to become the TM used online, and then get a concord of the books from your local library or used if you can find them equally well.

*Music:

  • Music lessons: Instrument lessons depending on child's interest. We've as well done Teach Yourself Piano, private lessons, guitar, etc. I volition say that the Teach Yourself Piano is a smashing starting point, but if yous want to progress you'll want to movement onto individual lessons at some signal. The lessons are short, and students learn songs right away which is a nice motivator. They do characterization your keyboard with number stickers then later on letters which help students larn.

Science:

  • The Rainbow Science: The Beginnings Publishing house has a cracking high school level science curriculum complete with labs. We used this for 8th and 9th grade and take so far enjoyed it. You can see my full review of The Rainbow Science curriculum here.
  • Abeka Science 9: Abeka science is also a good option if you're looking for like shooting fish in a barrel brusque lessons with not much fuss on your part. There are a few experiments included, though the curriculum as a whole is not that hands on. I do like that information technology is fairly contained work for your student and teaches them bones written report skills where they can learn how to read a text, take notes from that and then prepare and prepare for quizzes and tests on their own. Lessons are brusk and to the point, and you really don't demand much prep work. It does cover an overview of a diversity of topics in 1 year which is nice, and like I said it's fairly easy with lilliputian prep work for you. I usually become the TM, educatee text, and whatever accompanying flashcards, quizzes, and activity sheets. You tin can frequently find Abeka used, so check used sites before buying new! Abeka also offers online courses equally well.
  • BJU Printing Science ix: This science is similar in format to Abeka. Students accept required reading with some scientific experiments pertaining to the reading. There is a flake of preparation on your part, only nothing too difficult as long as you plan ahead a scrap. You will need the instructor's manual, educatee tests and respond central, along with the student activities transmission if you plan to do those. BJU Press likewise offers online courses likewise.

*P.Eastward.:

  • Extra-curricular sports: Because we do a diverseness of sports in the afternoons/evenings depending on our children's interests, we don't do a formal PE program at this fourth dimension. Right at present nosotros're doing a mix of swimming, ice skating, iv-H, horseback riding and ice hockey. We've also washed trip the light fantastic toe, gymnastics, lacrosse, baseball game, basketball, and cheerleading. I suggest finding something your child is interested in and go them involved in a sport. It'southward a great fashion to get exercises and take fun at the aforementioned time.

*Typing/Computers:

  • Udemy is a wonderful online learning area where your students tin find classes on just nigh annihilation. We honey to use this for computers/programming skills and take enjoyed quite a few smaller courses found on the site.
  • Typing Web (free online typing program): Nosotros've been using Typing Web for a few years at present and I find that it'southward a great way to improve typing skills. I affair I've constitute that helps is doing typing on a daily basis. And so we've scheduled it for x minutes per mean solar day 5 days per calendar week. The best part is that the lessons are free. You but sign up as a parent account so add your students nether your business relationship. If you haven't done typing still, I would highly encourage y'all to start at present. To get more typing do in I typically allow my students to type their reports and writing assignments by grade 7. I've establish 10 minutes is curt enough that they don't mind doing information technology, only enough practice to help them get relatively fluent typists over the grade of the year.

Vocabulary:

  • Vocabulary Workshop Class nine: I've found vocabulary workshop to be decent as far as vocabulary goes. It's basically a workbook with a reading selection, word lists, and so worksheets using the vocabulary presented in the reading portion. Information technology's non very exciting, simply seems to work well. They also offering SAC and ACT test prep too.
  • Set It Grammar The Fix Information technology! Grammar is both an English/Grammar curriculum but also includes vocabulary words that students look up and write downwards the definitions for. They only do one discussion per day, and so depending on how rigorous a vocabulary program y'all want, that's something to take into consideration. Nosotros accept found this sufficient and oasis't supplemented with annihilation else.

Writing:

  • Institute for Excellence in Writing: We've used IEW for a couple of years now, and I really like how it teaches writing skills. I have definitely seen an improvement in my student'south writing as well. IEW has DVD based lessons, then assignments that correlate with the video lessons. I really like that I don't have to teach this particular subject area, just instead I can simply facilitate the homework. We all lookout man the video together, then my students complete the assignments as directed. I really similar the pedagogy method they utilize and thing that the check lists have really helped my children learn how to write interesting and properly formatted paragraphs. I also honey that it has a banned word lists likewise every bit a cheque listing so students are encouraged to use more colorful words and they have a articulate outline of what's expected of them for each assignment. I advise starting with their Pupil Writing Intensives and then you can move forwards from there. This year nosotros are using one of their History Based writing curriculum. They also take high schoolhouse level writing curriculum forth with how to write a novel which I call up sounds amazing!

Final Advice for 9th grade: When preparing your curriculum for 9th grade I call back the best communication I can give you is to keep focusing more than on independent work for your student. If you oasis't already I encourage yous to start teaching them how to read a text, accept notes, then study and prepare for quizzes and exams from those notes.

Since the workload is a bit more serious at this bespeak, I still like to program in a few fun field trips wherever we tin fit them in or where they correlate with our lessons. I also brand sure to keep track of my pupil's workload when planning the year. I use a sample schedule (run across above) to chart how long each subject field volition take earlier ownership curriculum at this stage.

I as well like to include more than pupil independent work to help set up them for high school where they will be required to work more on their own. Online courses are a great way to do this.

If fourth dimension allows I also similar to choose an elective curriculum that is more hands-on and engaging. My daughter really enjoyed the The Foto Finch Composition photography curriculum, and I am instruction her Photoshop skills equally well.

Continue pedagogy them how to work diligently and more independently where appropriate. I like using the workbox arrangement to help my students learn to complete tasks more independently, and yes nosotros still use them for ninth course! Hither's a video on our workboxes and how we apply them in our school!
